PROGRAM

RÉPLICA – Reflections on Contemporary Printmaking

The central structure of the event is an artistic residency – Printmaking Experimental Laboratory – designed to promote the development of work of experimental nature. Three tutors  have been invited to give a master class and individual tutorials.

Guest Tutors: 
Paul Coldwell (UK) Artist and Professor at Chelsea College of Arts, author of the book Printmaking: A Contemporary Perspective;
Nuno Faria (PT) Curator, founder of the Mobilehome - Nomadic, Experimental, Independente Art School; responsible for the programming of Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães;
Oona Grimes (UK) Artist and Visiting lecturer at Ruskin School of Fine Art and Royal College of Arts.

The program also includes a two-part debate session – dedicated to Contemporary Printmaking and the work of Bartolomeu dos Santos. These sessions will take place at the University of Algarve, along with the projection of the documentary, Bartolomeu dos Santos, por Terras Devastadas, by Jorge Silva Melo.

There will be a final exhibition of the work produced in residence, at Casa das Artes de Tavira, and a publication will be produced to document the critical and creative processes that take place during the event.

Jorge Silva Melo, Filmmaker and critic; founder of Artistas Unidos theater; director of the documentaries A Gravura: Esta Mútua Aprendizagem and Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos: por Terras Devastadas;
Manuel Botelho, Artist and professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Universidade de Lisboa;
Graciela Machado, Artist and professor of printmaking tecniques at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Universidade do Porto.
